11-8-17 — Geary to Join School Board in January

Nov. 8, 2017 ~ Brian Geary was elected to the Olathe Board of Education on Nov. 7 to fill the seat being vacated by board member Mike Poland who has served since 2005. Board members Brent McCune and Amy Martin were re-elected to four-year terms on Nov. 7. All three terms will begin Jan. 8.

Prior to the election, Geary shared the following information in a candidate questionnaire for Position 6, in the northwest part of the school district.

Family: Wife — Heather Bradley-Geary, children — Bre (sophomore at Olathe Northwest High School) and Micah (seventh-grader at Prairie Trail Middle School)

Occupation/Employer: Vice president at Bank of Blue Valley — Olathe

Qualifications: I served on the Ravenwood Elementary Site Council, and have been on the Olathe Public Schools Foundation board since 2012 (serving as president for the 2014-15 school year). I was a member of the Citizens for Excellence in Olathe Schools (CEOS), 2016 Bond Task Force, and was an advisory member for the Business Finance Academy.

Priorities:
1. Wise investment of tax dollars to reinforce our community's commitment to excellence and quality
2. Steady leadership in the changing public education landscape
3. Be a voice for patrons, students and educators, collaboratively
4. Help lead the district with continued focus on preparing our children for their future

Civic Involvement:
• Board member for the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, 2011-16 (treasurer for two years)
• Graduate of Leadership Olathe 2009
• Graduate of the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce's Centurions Leadership Program
• Board member for St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Overland Park
• Johnson County appointee for the Community Advisory Committee of the Health Care Foundation of Greater Kansas City
• Volunteer youth sports coach through YMCA and Kansas Rush Soccer
