11-7-23 — Students Perform Holiday Tunes with Heavy Metal Flair
Nov. 7, 2023 ~ It just wouldn’t be the holidays without hearing “Deck the Halls” or “O Come, All Ye Faithful” played by tubas and euphoniums, the largest and heaviest brass instruments. The Olathe Public Schools Heavy Metal Christmas event at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 29, is free to the public and packed full of holiday favorites.
Olathe musicians from sixth through 12th grade will perform at College Church of the Nazarene, 2020 E. Sheridan Street, Olathe. All 10 middle schools and five high schools will be represented, showcasing the musical talents of about 150 students.
While there is no charge to attend, donations are welcome and will help cover expenses. Any additional funds will be given to Dr. B’s Musical Instrument Fund with the Olathe Public Schools Foundation. The fund provides band and orchestra instruments for students who are unable to rent or purchase their own because of the cost.
