Olathe Music Educators Earn Recognition
Five Olathe educators were recognized by the East Central Kansas Music Educators Association (ECKMEA).
- Kody Willnauer, general music teacher at Regency Place Elementary, was named the 2020-21 ECKMEA Elementary Music Educator of the Year.
- Nicole Chapple, band teacher at Oregon Trail Middle School, was named the 2020-21 ECKMEA Middle Level Band Director of the Year.
- Gretchen Harrison, choir teacher at Frontier Trail Middle School, was named the 2020-21 ECKMEA Middle Level Choir Director of the Year.
- Elise Peterson, choir director at Olathe South High School, was named the 2020-21 ECKMEA High School Choir Director of the Year. Peterson is also the ECKMEA district nominee for KMEA Music Teacher of the Year.
- Jennifer Stoskopf, Prairie Trail Middle School assistant principal, is the ECKMEA district nominee for KMEA Administrator of the Year.
“We are so proud to have these amazing music educators in Olathe,” Martha Gabel, Olathe Public Schools fine arts coordinator, said. “These dedicated teachers set a high bar for excellence not only in our district but throughout the state.”
Olathe Theatre Students Earn Recognition
More than a dozen Olathe North High School theatre students participated in a virtual Tri-State Thespian Festival. This festival included individual and group competitions and events.
Four students qualified for the International Thespian Festival in June while the Olathe North Thespian Troupe received an Honored Troupe award which highlights a troupe that actively participates in theatre outreach, bringing theatre to the community, theatre productions and theatre participation.
