Olathe South Recognized for Financial Literacy Education
Olathe South High School was recognized as a Gold Standard School for Financial Literacy Education by Next Gen Personal Finance, a non-profit provider of financial education curriculum and teacher professional development.
Olathe South High School is just one of 1,247 high schools in the nation to receive this honor.
“We are proud of the work our business teachers have done,” Olathe South Principal Dale Longenecker said. “The skills our students learn in this course will help prepare them to become responsible stakeholders in our community after graduation.”
Olathe Educator Named State Finalist for Presidential Award
Dena Steen, third grade teacher at Ravenwood Elementary, was named one of three state finalists for the Presidential Award for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST).
A national selection committee will review state finalists and the White House will announce national winners.
“Dena works hard and brings learning to life with her creative teaching ideas and strategies,” Ravenwood Principal Jami Veatch said. “Her passion for the profession and her students makes her shine brightly.”

Olathe Northwest Dance Team Earns State Title
The Olathe Northwest High School Raven Dance Team won the inaugural Kansas 6A state title for Division III dance.
“We are thrilled and honored to have been awarded the first ever state championship for dance,” Olathe Northwest dance coach Shannon Summers said. “All the credit is owed to our athletes and we can’t wait to add a banner to the gym to remember this accomplishment for all the years to come.”
