Olathe West Student Receives Kansas Heisman

Olathe West High School senior Alex Birge was named the Kansas winner of the Heisman High School Athletic Scholarship. Each state selects two student athletes, one male and one female, to be considered for selection as a national finalist.

“Alex embodies everything you want in a high school student,” Olathe West Principal Jay Novacek said. “He works as hard in the classroom as he does on the athletic field. He is the definition of a scholar athlete.”

Olathe Public Schools Earns Budget Award

The Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO) awarded the Olathe School District its Meritorious Budget Award (MBA) for the 2020-21 budget year.

The MBA promotes and recognizes excellence in school budget presentation and enhances business officials’ skills in developing, analyzing and presenting a school system budget.

“It is an honor to receive the MBA for the 24th consecutive year,” Deputy Superintendent Business and Operations John Hutchison said. “This award provides independent validation that our district utilizes best practices in presenting a transparent budget.”

Olathe Student Athletes Achieve Success

The Olathe West High School girls cross country team recently earned the Kansas 6A state title during the state meet in Andover, Kansas.

Olathe North High School freshman Anjali Hocker Singh won the Kansas 6A individual cross country state title.

The Olathe Northwest High School volleyball team was runner-up in the Kansas 6A state volleyball tournament.
