12-10-20 — Opportunities Abound in Substitute Teaching

Dec. 10, 2020 ~ Olathe Public Schools relies on substitute teachers and nurses in its relentless pursuit of excellence. Substitute teachers provide effective teaching strategies so that student learning continues in the absence of the classroom teacher. They play a vital role in student achievement.

As the district continues to educate children during COVID-19 and follow county quarantine guidelines, there are times when substitutes are needed to work in classrooms and nurse’s offices.

Substitute teachers use their effective teaching strategies to keep students engaged in the absence of the classroom teacher.

Opportunities for many individuals:

  • Substitute teaching works well with college students’ schedules.
  • This is a great job for parents of students attending an Olathe school.
  • Substitute RNs can maintain other part-time nursing jobs.
  • Substitute paraprofessionals can sub without a degree.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 60 college credits.
  • An emergency sub license or current Kansas Teaching License.
  • Complete the Kansas State Department of Education Emergency Substitute licensure application by visiting www.ksde.org.
  • Meet the employment qualification set forth by the Olathe Public Schools and the Kansas State Department of Education
