Campaign Receives Community Service Award

The student-led #ZeroReasonsWhy suicide prevention campaign recently received the 2019 Excellence in Community Service Award from the United Community Services of Johnson County (UCS).

This campaign was started by the superintendents of the six Johnson County school districts and is increasingly supported by teens, parents and organizations across the Kansas City region. Students from each district, including Olathe Public Schools, provide leadership as ambassadors and members of the teen council.

#ZeroReasonsWhy works to address the social and emotional well-being of teens, and mobilize teen, parent, educator, and practitioner support around a community standard of care and prevention.

Olathe West Cross Country Coach Recognized

Olathe West High School girls cross country coach Kelsey Carbajo was named the Kansas 6A Girls Cross County Coach of the Year by the Kansas Track and Field and Cross Country Association.

“Coach Kelsey Carbajo is one of the most passionate individuals I have ever met,” Olathe West Principal Jay Novacek said. “She throws herself completely into everything she does from being a great special education teacher to coaching our athletes on the cross country team. We are proud of Coach Carbajo and her well-deserved honor.”
