Olathe East Wins $25,000 in Battle of the Brains Competition
Olathe East High School placed second in the Burns & McDonnell Battle of the Brains competition. The second-place finish earns Olathe East $25,000 in STEM-related initiatives for their school. The funds may go toward scholarships for students interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) camps, lab equipment or technology enhancements.
Quest Sponsors Beth Welland and Tish Varraveto worked with students to bring their project, Color and Light District, to fruition.
“The team worked hard for two months,” said Welland. “Many worked on portions of the project on their own and meeting during conference days when there was no school provided the time to put the finishing touches on the project.”
“We are so proud of this year's Olathe East Battle of the Brains team,” said Varraveto. “Each person of the 14-student team brought their unique talents, creative perspectives and distinctive skill sets. The Battle of the Brains program is unmatched for student exposure to real-world problem-solving.”
