12-2-19 — Board to Learn of Student Market Value Assets

Dec. 2, 2019 ~ The Olathe Board of Education will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, in the Education Center, 14160 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe. The meeting will begin with a handful of recognitions, followed by two informational presentations to the board.

The board will recognize a community partner, an outstanding educator, several state champion athletes, and an award-winning program.

Assistant Superintendent of Support Services Jessica Dain and Kauffman Foundation Educator in Residence Donna McDaniel will discuss the Kauffman real-world learning initiatives that include market value assets. They will also discuss how the district will work to create a long-range plan to ensure that by 2030 all Olathe graduates will have at least one market value asset such as work experiences, college credit, industry-recognized credentials or entrepreneurial experiences.

In the second presentation to the board, Career and Technical Education Program Coordinator Barbra Gonzales will join Dain to review two new education pathways that align with the Kansas City region’s workforce: Animal Science and Research, and Healthcare Science and Emergency Medical Specialties.

The board’s agenda include a consent agenda of routine items as well as student trips, curriculum, and a board policy revision. The board will take action on four other items, as well as several bids, contracts or agreements. Board members will receive information on a dozen future action items, and two written reports.

An executive session is set for the board to discuss non-elected personnel.
