11-8-19 — Nation of Fairview Selects Representatives
Nov. 8, 2019 ~ In late October, Fariview Elementary’s Adopt-A-School partner, Johnson County Court Services, brought a civics lesson to life for its third-, fourth- and fifth-graders. Members of Court Services helped reinforce a lesson on government’s three branches: executive, judicial and legislative.
“We are so lucky to have such a great community partner in the JOCO Court Services,” Fairview Principal Andrew Dimmitt said. “They continue to work with our staff and students to make sure our students have a fun working knowledge of the American legal system.”
During an assembly, the newly created Nation of Fairview elected a president who selected members of her executive cabinet. Students were appointed to serve as legislators and three students were selected to judiciate.
The Nation of Fairview selected a color for their national flag and the judicial branch navigated a disagreement between the other branches and rendered a final verdict.
“JOCO Court Services provides engaging opportunities for our students to actively learn about civics. It allows our students to see themselves as future judges, lawmakers, governors and even as future presidents,” Fairview counselor Mitchell Cloud said.
