Meet Our Board of Education

  • The Olathe Public Schools are served by seven board members representing area positions in three districts plus one at-large position. (view the board district boundaries map, adopted in June 2022, in PDF format) The president for 2023-24 is Brad Boyd and the vice president is Julie Steele. The board meets at 5:45 p.m. in the Education Center, 14160 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe. Upcoming meeting dates are Oct. 5, Nov. 2, Dec. 7, Jan. 11, 2024, Feb. 1, March 7, April 4, May 2, June 6 and the organizational meeting on July 11.

    Board Workshops

    Board workshops give district staff an opportunity to present in-depth information to board members on a focused topic. Meetings will begin at 5:45 p.m. in the board room of the Education Center.

    • Sept. 21 at the Olathe Advanced Technical Center, 611 N. Nelson Road — Learning Services representatives will speak on a variety of topics under the leadership of Chief Academic Officer Dr. Tim Reves. New State of Kansas graduation requirements will also be discussed.

Joe Beveridge

Represents the at-large district, Position 7
Term: 2020-24

Joe Beveridge and his wife, Jill, have been residents in the Olathe School District for over 10 years. They have three children attending Olathe schools; one in high school, one in middle school and one in elementary. Joe is an active member of the community and is very involved in the Olathe and Lenexa Chambers of Commerce. Joe is the owner and president of Solid Ground Environmental, LLC, an environmental consulting firm serving clients nationwide.

Brad Boyd

Represents district 2, Position 2
Term: 2020-24

Brad Boyd and his wife, Myisha, have been residents in the Olathe School District for four years. Brad is an active member of the community and is involved in site council and the School Counseling Advisory Council. He also coaches youth baseball. Brad is a marketing/sales program manager at Sprint. Brad and his wife have four children in Olathe Public Schools, three in elementary and one in middle school.

Brian Connell

Represents district 3, Position 6
Term: 2022-26

Brian Connell and his wife, Kristin, have been residents of the Olathe School District for over 15 years. They have two children; one graduated in 2021 from Olathe West High School and one currently attends Olathe North High School. Brian is an active member of the Olathe community, church and area youth athletics. Brian is the owner and CEO of Integrityfirst Consulting LLC, a technology consulting firm serving clients nationwide.

Robert Kuhn

Represents district 2, Position 5
Term: 2022-26

Robert Kuhn and his wife, Erica, have lived in Olathe nine years. They have four children, three of whom currently attend Olathe schools. Robert has been part of the Indian Creek Elementary School Site Council for the past two years. He is also involved in Cub Scouts with his two sons. Robert is a general manager at Millard Lumber for its custom cabinet division.

Julie Steele

Represents district 3, Position 3
Term: 2022-26

Julie Steele and her husband, Tim, have four children, three of whom have graduated from Olathe Public Schools. Julie is a graduate of the Olathe district and taught early childhood special education here. She and Tim own an audiology practice with multiple locations. Julie serves as director of operations. Julie is a member of the Olathe Chamber of Commerce, a graduate of Olathe Civic Academy, and on the advisory board for Boys and Girls Club in Olathe.

Shannon Wickliffe

Represents district 1, Position 4
Term: 2020-24

Shannon Wickliffe and his wife, Stefanie, are both graduates of Olathe East High School and have lived in Olathe since 2004. They have two daughters, both graduates from Olathe South High School. Shannon is the chief development officer at KidsTLC and serves on the Olathe Medical Center Board.

Dr. Stacey Yurkovich

Represents district 1, Position 1
Term: remainder of 2020-24

Dr. Stacey Yurkovich has lived in the Olathe community for nine years. She has two children and four grandchildren. Her four grandchildren attend Olathe Public Schools – two at Manchester Park Elementary and two in the Spanish Immersion program at Black Bob elementary. Dr. Yurkovich was a teacher in the district for two years and a junior high/middle school administrator for 24 years. Following her retirement from Olathe in 2015, she continued working in education and served as the director of teaching and learning in another Kansas district and a high school administrator and director of academies in a Missouri school district. She fully retired from public education in 2022.  

 

 

Board of Education Districts

  • The method of election for Olathe USD 233 is a district method with three districts. Each district has two member positions on the Board of Education. A seventh member position is elected on an at-large basis. The districts are as follows:

    • District 1 — The south portion of the district with the western, southern, and eastern boundaries being the district boundary. The northern boundary beginning at Pflumm Road and heading west is Santa Fe/135th Street to Interstate 35, then Old 56 Highway to K-7 Highway/Parker, then Santa Fe/135th Street to the western district boundary.
    • District 2 — The northeast portion of the district with the eastern and northern boundaries being the district boundary. The western boundary is the west BNSF rail line to College Boulevard, then Woodland Road to 127th Street, then Nelson Road to Kansas City Road, then Ridgeview to Santa Fe Street. The southern boundary is Santa Fe/135th Street to Pflumm Road, then the district boundary.
    • District 3 — The northwest portion of the district with the western and northern boundaries being the district boundary. The eastern boundary is the west BNSF rail line to College Boulevard, then Woodland Road to 127th Street, then Nelson Road to Kansas City Road, then Ridgeview to Santa Fe Street, then Interstate 35 to Old 56 Highway. The southern boundary is Old 56 Highway to K-7 Highway/Parker Street, then Santa Fe/135th Street to the western district boundary.

    Voting Plan B (K.S.A. 72-8003) (1) allows all electors who reside in a member district to vote in the primary election for the member positions of such member district and for the at-large member position, and (2) allows all electors who reside in the school district to vote in the general election for all member positions, including the at-large position.
