11-7-18 — Academies, Career and Technical Programs Accept Applications

Nov. 7, 2018 ~ Olathe students in eighth grade through their junior year are busy making decisions about the many career and technical education programs available to them next school year. Applications are being accepted for the district’s two-year career and technical programs at Olathe Advanced Technical Center and four-year 21st Century Academies located across the district. Both applications close Nov. 30.

The two-year programs are available for Olathe juniors and seniors. All programs focus on today’s high-demand career fields and help prepare students for the world of work or post-secondary training by combining student interest and learning through hands-on experiences, industry standard resources and equipment, and real-world partnerships fusing academic and technical skills, knowledge and the training necessary for future careers.

Visit the Olathe Advanced Technical Center website for details and an online application form.

The 21st Century Academies are accepting applications from eighth-graders who are interested in one or two of the 15 academies across the district. These innovative, four-year programs allow students to build upon their interests and learn specific knowledge and skills they can apply toward their post-secondary experiences and career fields.

Students who want technology assistance with submitting their 21st Century Academy application may attend one of four help sessions in November. Students should have drafted, edited and revised their essay prior to the help session. Staff and students will be available at the help sessions.
