Olathe North Student Receives Theater Honor
Drew Bellamy, sophomore at Olathe North High School, had his theater script, “Wish Agent,” selected to be strengthened via collaborative workshops at the Kansas Thespian Festival. Held Jan. 4-6 in Wichita, Kansas, the festival brings theater students from across the state to hone their craft.
“Any time a student in the theater department has success their theater family is incredibly proud. It is great to see them practice their craft,” Olathe North Director of Theater Dustin Pence said. “Drew is a student playwright who is gaining success as a sophomore. I can’t wait to see what will come of ‘Wish Agent’ and any future scripts developed by Drew.”
This is only the second time an Olathe North student has received this honor.

Frontier Trail Middle School eighth-grade science teachers Gary Blasi and Candi Stewart were named state winners for the 2017-18 Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest. Blasi and Stewart are now finalists for the national competition.
As named state winners, Blasi and Stewart will receive a $25,000 Samsung technology package for Frontier Trail.
“We were so excited when we found out we are the state winner for the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow contest,” Frontier Trail Principal Rod Smith said. “Ms. Stewart and Mr. Blasi’s idea to design and build portable water filtration systems will bring real-world issues into the classroom to allow students to solve a problem.”
Olathe Student Named Presidential Scholar in Career and Technical Education
Alex Reeves, senior at Olathe East High School, was selected as one of five Career and Technical Education Presidential Scholars by the Kansas State Department of Education.
“We are so proud of Alex on his nomination for the 2018 Career and Technical Education Presidential Scholars Program,” Olathe East Principal Kerry Lane said. “He has worked diligently to put together his application for this very prestigious honor and his work, his many certificates and endorsements in this area make him a natural candidate.
