After earning team MVP honors as a football player at South – where he was also class president and a member of the basketball and track teams – Don was a three-year starter at the University of Kansas. His professional football career included stints with the New York Jets, Kansas City Chiefs, New Orleans Saints and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He helped the St. Louis Rams get to Super Bowl XXXVI following the 2001 season. Don then signed with New England and helped the Patriots win Super Bowl XXXVIII and XXXIX. In 2004, he received the Ernie Tavilla Award from the Athletes in Action sports ministry organization. After his playing career, Don was the Patriots’ assistant strength and conditioning coach and team chaplain. He later became director of NFL programs for Pro Athletes Outreach. In 2010, he became a regional director for the National Football Players Association.
