Community Open House

  • The Academies located at Olathe South will hold a community open house from 6-7:30pm on Tuesday, Oct. 26th

Things you’ll see and do at our 2021 Open House

    • Interact with our Optitrak, 6 Camera, Motion Capture System and learn how 2 of our seniors will be using it to study lower leg biomechanics for their Senior Capstone Project
    • Watch our Stratasys F170 3D Printer in action and see a 3D printed cochlea as you talk to a senior who is studying hearing loss and researching medical devices and Stem Cell Technology
    • See the developing stages of engineering design by talking with a current student who built a medical device to study the nerve impulses traveling to the fingers. Talk with him about how this idea can be used in combination with an Arduino to create a biomechanical hand
    • Get hands on by learning how to intubate and use an ambu bag to provide oxygen for a patient
    • Practice doing laparoscopic surgery and using various surgical tools using one of our training modules
    • Work with current students to build a prototype of a prosthetic hand and take it home to keep!
    • Talk to students about their bioengineering projects they took to KU Design Day this year
    • Learn about heart anatomy as you test out our a few of our student’s “Valve in a Box” engineering challenge prototypes
    • Hear about fieldtrips, competitions, eHours, and other opportunities you’ll have available if you are part of our academy
    • Ask questions and get information on how to apply to our Academy
