OATC Student Clubs

  • ORCA

Olathe Race Car Association (ORCA) is a student run radio control race car club. The students maintain, repair, and set up the cars for racing. The set-up requires physics, geometry, mechanical problem-solving skills. The students work as a team in marketing. They contact industry and market their cars that entails selling sponsorships to finance their car. They paint and decal the cars to market their sponsors, modeled after professional racing. The club has a professional scoring system that allows them to track lap times and race position. This is a student activity with no cost to the student to participate and is great for students that are not participating in traditional sports. ORCA engages with industry and the public by running races in a sponsor’s place of business and community events.

    Lowrider Bike Club

The Olathe chapter of the Leadership Lowrider Bike Club was the first to be established in 2017. Our mission is to help high school students find a sense of belonging and support both socially and academically. This program allows students to receive weekly mentoring, academic support, community service, and cultural identity development through the Lowrider community, all while building custom bikes that they earn upon high school graduation. Our club also restores bikes and donates them to the community. Since the club’s inception, 375 bikes have been donated to the community and over 1,400 elementary students have been supported through one-to-one mentoring and all-school assemblies.
