    Happy Friday Roadrunner Families!

First, I want to thank all the parents, families and friends that attended the Student Showcase on January 26 – what an amazing turnout supporting our Roadrunner students and programs.

Second, for students that attend our WDLC location.
Roadwork will be occurring on Pitt Street this week. I have reviewed with the students and staff the following information:

You will need to enter our parking lot from Robinson St. (Pitt Street will not have access to our parking lot.)
The bus will drop students off on Robinson St. and they will need to walk through the parking lot to our building.
Students will enter from the side door of the building – the front door will be blocked for their safety.
Please knock on the side door if you are late. Be prepared to show your student ID prior to entering the building. If there is a long delay in opening the door, please call the OATC phone line for assistance. The phone number will be listed on the door.
The installation of sidewalks is scheduled for only next week. I will provide further updates as needed.

Finally, We have several upcoming events to share – so mark your calendar – we hope to see you!

  • OATC Roadrunner Update 10.28.22

Posted by Linda Couch on 10/31/2022

    Hello OATC Roadrunner Families!

Reaching out to share the information from last night’s parent meeting,  as well as provide a few reminders of OATC Roadrunner expectations. You will find the handouts from the Parent Meeting attached to this email.

    NEW INFORMATION

    Course Fees
Please be sure to login to your In-Touch account to  pay your OATC course fees or you can also bring payment to the front desks at OATC or WDLC and a receipt will be provided with your payment. To access your In-Touch account, click on the link below.

https://ks-olathe.intouchreceipting.com/ in order to pay your OATC course fees that have been uploaded.

Please email Debbie Sleezer dsleezeroatc@olatheschools.org if you have any questions regarding course fees.

    Attendance
We are having several phone calls for excused tardies. Please remember from Orientation meetings that we do not excuse tardies, late is late. We appreciate the phone calls to let us know the students are safe and on their way, but they will still be marked as tardy. Students are provided 4 "free" tardies each quarter.

Attendance is an OATC requirement, as students attend for 3 hours per day. We are currently reviewing 1st semester attendance and will be meeting with students that have 5 absences or more for the semester and also with students with excessive tardies. We will work to develop an attendance plan with each student. Students are to be a HERO each day at OATC - Here Every day Ready On-Time. Failure to meet this expectation will result in dismissal from the program.

Please do not call your student out if they text or call to tell you “they are doing nothing in class” – this is never the case. This is generally an activity that the student is choosing to not be a member of the classroom team. We are amazed at the number of “appointments” that arise when a student does not want to be a part of an assigned activity or they do not want to attend schoolwide activities. All activities that are prepared for students have multiple learning objectives and learning experiences that will help them find success in their future. There are hours spent by staff planning daily lessons and schoolwide events. Additionally, if a teacher is absent, there are always relevant activities and work to be completed with a substitute or with an OATC administrator or staff member. Please know that every day is important and attendance is required.

Information that was shared at Parent Meeting & Promised:

    RECYCLED INFORMATION
11.03.22 – OATC District Open House
We will open our buildings and programs for the district to “see” on Thursday, November 03 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. We have invited students and families that are in grades 8 – 11 to come out and experience OATC – I have attached our invitation to this message. We will need OATC students to be here that evening to share their experiences with the visiting families. This is a community service opportunity for OATC students who are in need of hours toward their graduation cord and/or CTE Scholar. Please share with friends, neighbors, etc. – let them know that OATC is a great place to be!

    11.04.22 – Picture Re-Takes
We will have Strawbridge at OATC & WDLC again on Friday, 11.04 to get pictures of students who were absent on our original picture date or wish to have a re-take. The photographers will also be capturing group photos of each program.

OATC Application for 2023-2024 School Year
The OATC application for next school year opened on Monday, October 24, 2022. This application will remain open until Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at midnight. All students must re-apply if they plan to join us for their Senior year. Students, please do your best work on the essay and complete the application as if you are applying for the first time. Your attendance and transcript will also be reviewed to make sure that you are still in good standing for graduation at your home high school & that you can return as a Roadrunner for the 2023-2024 school year.

In closing, we had a guest speaker that presented to both our students & staff in August that drove home for all the importance of
"EDMED - Every Day Means Every Day."
We are to bring our best self to school and to work and not settle for less or take the "easy route." We need to accept responsibility when we make a mistake and work to learn from our mistakes - that is what builds self-confidence and maturity. Thank you for sharing your student with us & supporting our Roadrunner expectations.

    Amy  :)
