Tom Alumbaugh

Tom has been a job coach at OATC since August 2017. He was born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas. Tom attended Hutchinson High School, Hutchinson Community College, and graduated from Kansas State University. Prior to OATC, he worked in the automotive and insurance industries. Tom is married to Camille, who is a pharmacist. They have a son, Ross, who is an aerospace engineering student at the University of Kansas.

Larry Couch

Larry was born and raised in the Kansas City area, graduating from Shawnee Mission East High School.  He attended Central Bible College (now known as Evangel University) in Springfield, Missouri where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Bible and Theology. After five years in the ministry, he, his wife, and two boys became missionaries to Spain, after spending a year in Costa Rica studying Spanish.  In Spain he was a college professor in the Madrid area and later in the Canary Islands.

After 11 years as missionaries, the Couch family moved to Miami, Florida where Larry pastored a Hispanic church. Larry and his wife moved to New Mexico where he worked for 13 years at a residential facility for at-risk teenagers as house parents and later as administrators for three facilities. They moved back to Kansas City and now Larry has the privilege of working with teenagers at OATC.

Christine Harrison-Bowman

Christine has been employed with the district since 2008, beginning at Mill Creek Center, followed by OATC. She has a Bachelor of Science from the University of Wyoming, majoring in biology and chemistry. Prior to college, Christine spent four years in the U.S. Air Force with a tour in Japan, then stateside in Wyoming.

She was previously employed as a chemist with Marion Laboratories and subsequent merged companies in south Kansas City for 20 years. Christine enjoys working with students at OATC in their preparation for post-secondary careers.

Gary McVey

Gary began working for the Olathe School District in 2008. He was born and raised in Manhattan, Kansas and earned his degree in business marketing from Kansas State University. Prior to entering the world of education, Gary spent a number of years working in the food distribution industry. In his spare time, he enjoys supporting the local sports teams and spending time with his family. Gary is married with two children.

Kristine Middendorf

Kristine has been at OATC since 2015 and with the Olathe School District since 2008. Originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin, she graduated with a B.S. in Biological Sciences from Carroll University. She received an MBA from Cardinal Stritch University and a M.S. in Environmental Management from Freie Universität Berlin. She previously worked in the environmental management and occupational safety field. Kristine is married with two children.

Mary L. Schmidt

Mary is new to OATC but has lived in the area since 2013. She was raised on a farm in west central Minnesota and attended Willmar Community College and South Dakota State University (BA Speech Education/MA Communication Studies). She lived in South Dakota for 13 years and worked for State 4-H, various school districts and community theatre organizations. Mary was a Communication Studies instructor for twenty years, most recently at St. Cloud Technical & Community College. She is an interpreter for the Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm, Deanna Rose Children’s Farmstead and works for Prairie Pet Care. Mary volunteers for Scraps KC and KC Fringe Festival. Her husband, Charlie Pautler (Museum Director) was raised in Kansas City, MO and is happy to be off the frozen prairie. They enjoy “old stuff”.

John Sleezer

John graduated from Olathe High School in 1976. John served in the United States Army for three years, from 1977 thru 1980, where he was trained as a photographer. This led to a forty-year career as a photojournalist with The Olathe Daily News, United Press International, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Columbia (Missouri) Daily Tribune and 31 years at The Kansas City Star. John also attended Kansas State University from 1982 to 1985, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.

John and his wife Debbie raised their son and daughter in the Olathe School system and enjoy spending time with their grandchildren. John also volunteered for many years as an adult leader in Olathe with the Boy Scouts of America and helped in training other adult leaders through district and council level training events.
