Emergency Medical Services Program Overview

  • The Emergency Medical Services Program prepares students with the knowledge and skills necessary for continued education and, ultimately, a successful career in emergency services. Emergency services workers help protect the public by rapidly responding to a variety of emergencies. They are frequently the first emergency personnel at the scene of a traffic accident or medical emergency and may be called upon to treat injuries or perform other vital functions.

    EMS students learn about the legStudents will learn about EMS professions and the integrated services and systems of healthcare, public health and public safety. They will receive skills training in CPR, patient assessment, airway management, fracture management, and trauma management. Students will participate in ride-alongs through Johnson County Med-Act, our local ambulance service.  Students must be in good standing and demonstrate professionalism, attendance and 3.0 GPA in English. 

    What We Do

    • Partner with educational and industrial institutions for advanced learning and employment opportunities
    • Integrate skills needed in the workplace into classroom and laboratory instruction

    This program is available to students in their senior year for three hours a day.

    Student Organizations

    Each student is encouraged to become a chapter member, participate in competitions, attend conferences, become officers and work towards scholarships offered by these organizations.

    SkillsUSA — This student-led organization is a partnership between education and industry. It provides an opportunity for students to build a foundation for career and life success. Allowing students to explore, develop and build on their education and chosen path or industry.
