The Olathe Public Schools provides a variety of learning experiences for children ages birth to 5 years of age in the school district.

• Early Childhood Special Education: Our Early Childhood Special Education programs serve children who demonstrate a significant delay in one or more areas of development (cognition, motor, social, communication, adaptive). Services can be provided within a range of environments.
• At-Risk Preschool / Jump Start: Free preschool and transportation may be available for children who meet certain criteria (teen parent, free lunch, parents speak a language other than English, single parent families, migrant status, child in foster care, child is homeless, parent lacks a high school diploma/GED).
• Fee-Based Preschool: Children who do not meet the criteria for free preschool above, may apply for a fee-based spot in an early childhood special education classroom. Fee-based students are selected via a lottery system. Click Fee-Based Preschool on the left menu for additional info. Bus transportation is not available for fee-based peer students.
• Developmental Screening: If you suspect your child has a developmental delay, the district can complete a developmental screening at no cost to you. Screenings include developmental testing for all areas (cognition, motor, social, communication, and adaptive).
• Olathe Head Start: Olathe Head Start serves children between the ages of 3 and 5 who meet program requirements from the federal government.
• Olathe Parents as Teachers: Parents as Teachers promotes optimal early development, learning, and health of children by supporting and engaging their parents and caregivers through home visits, playgroups, screenings, and resources. Visit the Parents as Teachers website.
