Summer 2022 Driver Education

  • The Olathe School District will offer driver’s education in the summer of 2022 in an in-person classroom format. Classes will meet daily from 8-10 a.m. or 1-3 p.m., Monday through Friday at Olathe East High School. If COVID numbers rise, the school district will have an option to switch to a virtual classroom.

Two sessions will be offered. The June session will be May 31-June 22. The July session will be June 27-July 21. Students will pick a morning or afternoon time and a June or July session. Morning and afternoon drives will be before or after class and occasionally students will drive during class. If the student drives during class, notes from that hour will be available to the student.

Students will drive with their assigned instructor two or three days a week. Students will be dropped off and picked up at Olathe East High School. Olathe East is the headquarters for the driver’s education program.

Students may register online between March 11 and April 8.

Historically, the program has had a very high application rate. We take oldest students and students with their learners permits first. A learner’s permit is not required but will be a consideration. Students must be 14.5 years old by the first class. Driving experience with a parent/guardian is highly recommended prior to the start of class.

The cost is $325 payable by credit card, cash or check and due at registration prior to the first day of class. Successful completion of the course plus additional driving experience will enable students to obtain a Kansas driver’s license or restricted license (depending on their age and length of time they have held a permit).

Parents will be notified by email if their student has been selected for the program from information provided on the online registration process. Selection is based upon the students having a learners permit and being among the oldest applicants.
