Free and Reduced-Price Meal Program
No need to submit a Child Nutrition application for the 2021-2022 school year.
USDA has extended free reimbursable meals (breakfast & lunch) to all students for the entire school year.
Students may receive free or reduced-price meals (this does not include a la carte items) if their family’s gross household income is at or below the federal income guidelines shown below. Most foster children, and those receiving Food Assistance (FA), Temporary Assistance to Families (TAF), or Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) benefits are eligible for free breakfast and lunch. Children in households participating in the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program may also be eligible.
Olathe Public Schools offers an online option for completing an application for meal benefits. It is simple, fast and free! Once the online application is completed, the Food Services office will receive it, finalize the determination of benefits and mail a letter to notify the household. The online approval process eliminates several steps, making it the fastest way to apply. Food Services is not responsible for paper applications that are lost/delayed in the U.S. or school mail. Completing the online application is recommended.

Annual Letter to Parents
A new application is required every school year. Only one application is needed per household. Please allow up to two weeks for processing after Food Services has received the application. A letter will be mailed to the home address on file explaining if the household qualifies for free or reduced-priced meals. It is important to make sure the schools have the correct home address. Parents may change their home address by contacting the child's school.
Applications must have an original signature. Food Services does not accept copied, emailed, or faxed applications. Applications are approved in the order received at the Food Services office.
If a child was receiving free or reduced-priced meals at the end of the last school year, their benefits will continue for the first 30 school days of the new year. This allows parents enough time to submit a new application for review without the child losing benefits. It is strongly recommended that the new application be submitted as soon as possible to allow ample time for processing. Unless the previous year’s benefits are carrying over during the first 30 school days, parents will be required to pay full price for meals until the processing and determination of meal benefits has been completed.
