Mental Health Resources

Dear South Families,

The counseling department wants to draw your attention to mental health resources that are available. Olathe South will be offering small group sessions for grief, depression, and anxiety. If interested, download and fill out the permission form and return to your student's counselor.

For other resources, read this flyer (PDF) about the district's HELP Clinic

Olathe South also has a contracted clinician through Resolve Counseling & Wellness. Jessica Slaughter, licensed master social worker, is available to meet with students on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:40 a.m.-2:40 p.m. She earned her bachelor of social work in 2016 from The University of Kansas and her master of social work from Park University in 2022. Parents who would like more information on referring their child for this therapeutic support should contact the student's Olathe South counselor, social worker or administrator. All referrals are confidential.

"Beginning to navigate through life and all of its twists and turns can be scary and overwhelming, especially for youth and young adults," Slaughter said. "There can be many unknowns and obstacles that can bring about feelings of depression, anxiety, stress, and others. I desire to provide therapeutic approaches to work alongside youth and young adults to grow into the best versions of themselves. I aim to provide a safe, open environment to allow youth and young adults to heal and work towards healthy goals and desires. In utilizing play therapy techniques, youth can learn coping skills and gain knowledge and tools to take with them through life by doing what they do best, Play! I believe that meaningful conversations to address challenges, an open space to vent, and find working together to find solutions can be not only freeing, but healing."
