Student Activities and Clubs
Math Wings, an after-school mathematics competition club, is for fourth- and fifth-grade students who excel in mathematics and are interested in developing mathematical strategies that will enable them to compete against students from other schools. Math Wings sessions will focus on developing 1) advanced mathematical concepts and 2) skills in solving problems using speed strategies.
Special Chorus is open to any 4th- and 5th-grade student who is interested in singing and is willing to make the commitment to attend rehearsals and performances throughout the year. Rehearsals are 3:30-4:00 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Web site: Tonal Eclipse
Run/Walk Club is open to 3rd-, 4th-, and 5th-graders who participate to have fun and increase their physical activity. The club meets in the fall and spring on Thursdays after school. Students may prepare to participate in the Jared Coones Memorial Run after the fall session.
Many of our 5th-grade students meet the standards for student leadership. These students earn and maintain eligibility requirements each quarter of their 5th-grade year, as well as the last quarter of their 4th-grade year. They serve as mentors for younger students by listening to children read and practice math facts. Student leaders also work as instructional aides for teachers, helping organize student work and getting the materials ready for students.
