Degrees and Certifications:
I wanted to share a little about me as our community begins learning more about each other. I was born and raised in western Kansas where I graduated from high school with a class of 73. I attended Kansas State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. My first position in Olathe was teaching second grade at Westview Elementary School. For various reasons, I found myself moving to higher grade levels including third, fifth and sixth.
In 1995, I earned a Master’s Degree from Emporia State University in Curriculum and Instruction: Supervision of Instruction. I loved learning so much that I returned to school to become certified as a building administrator. I moved to Meadow Lane Elementary where I taught sixth grade and worked as an administrative practicum student. One student in my final class at Meadow Lane is joining me at Millbrooke. I am so happy to welcome Kaylee Murdock and work with her in a new capacity!
In 2000, I left Meadow Lane and worked at the district level to facilitate a grant from the U.S. Department of Education that awarded Olathe schools three million dollars. With much support, we established School PLUS: After School Program. The program was set in the third highest need elementary schools in Olathe. Those schools were Central, Fairview and Westview. Washington was added at a later time. The program was a huge success. Our enrollment averaged 245 students on a daily basis. We offered homework assistance, enrichment programs and a healthy snack for students each day. This program is one of my proudest achievements!
After working with School PLUS for three years, I moved to Central Elementary where I coordinated the School PLUS program and became principal. I remained at Central for the next nine years.
I have loved being a principal. There are so many opportunities to work with parents, children and staff. Each is important and rewarding! Opening Millbrooke has been a dream coming true. I have loved every minute. The staff at Millbrooke is my “Dream Team.” I have a great deal of confidence in the staff and know that Millbrooke is a truly great school!
