    Notetaking

    1. For each class have a dedicated area to take notes.  For example a blue spiral notebook only for science notes.
    2. Date your notes and write down what is on the board or in a power point. Remember notes are given because the teacher wants you to remember how to complete problems or remember events, or processes. Even if the teacher has worked the same type of problem and you think you understand it, write it down.
    3. Consider using different color pens/pencils when creating your notes. Use different colors for math problems/solutions or vocabulary words/definitions. Sometimes it can help when trying to remember information or to find information for a future test study guide.

    Study Skills/Test Prep Skills

    1. When you review your work take five minutes each night to read over your class notes…even if you don’t have homework in that class. You will be surprised how much you can remember when you review your
    2. If a teacher assigns chapter readings then take notes and record page numbers and paragraph numbers for future reference.
    3. If a teacher provides a study guide complete it before the test.
    4. Pay attention during the test. Ask questions and write down information.  Sometimes a teacher will give you some tips on really important information that “might” be on the upcoming test.
    5. Ask the teacher what type of test will be given. Preparing for a multiple choice tests can be different than preparing for a short answer/essay test.
    6. Practice writing possible test questions.
    7. When preparing for a test, gather the necessary materials such as study guide, notes, flashcards etc. Start with reading over your notes then review worksheets or if the teacher tells you that the test will be similar to a study guide then ask someone to quiz you or spend time reworking the problems.
