  • Counseling Program Overview

    The Olathe School District has developed the Portrait of a Graduate that states "All Olathe Public Schools graduates will achieve cognitive, personal and interpersonal excellence" The school counseling program at Fairview Elementary helps students develop Problem Solving skills, Initiative and Self Direction, Resiliency, Social and Emotional Wellbeing, Communication skills, as well as Social and Cross Cultural Skills. The counselor meets every other week with each classroom to teach counselor lessons. The counselor also provides whole school activities that focus on character education, and provides small group and individual counseling as needed. He works with teachers, families, and community partners to help meet students' needs so they can find success academically.

  • Fairview Elementary School students are future helpers, discoverers, explorers, problem solvers, pioneers, astronauts, and world changers. Students possess a wide range of cognitive, social, and emotional abilities that enable them to achieve their personal best. Students are able to collect information, use critical thinking skills, persevere through the most complex of problems, and communicate effectively with others to create lasting, systemic change in the world. Students are prepared to be leaders in their field not only because of their desire to be hardworking, lifelong learners, but primarily because of their outstanding ability to empathize, build meaningful relationships, collaborate effectively with a diverse workforce, and advocate for justice. Students possess the specific skills necessary to become high performing, highly educated, highly employable workers. They also possess the interpersonal skills needed to build the bridges necessary to positively influence people and affect systemic change. Fairview Elementary School students will be remembered for generations to come because of the positive impact they made in our world.

  • The mission of the Fairview Elementary School Counseling Program is to ensure all students develop the skills needed to be successful academically, socially, and emotionally as measured by the Kansas State Standards. All students will have access to evidence-based, data-informed services provided through a multi-tiered system of instruction that ensures students are equally prepared to be productive citizens, leaders, and change makers in an ever-changing world.

Counselor

Mitchell Cloud is a clinically licensed children's therapist and professional school counselor. He has been practicing in Olathe since 2012. He is a volunteer solar system ambassador for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and NASA. He plays the banjo, loves looking at the stars through his telescope, and rides on his bike as much as he can. Mitchell encourages students to discover, make mistakes, persevere, and demonstrate grit through fun and engaging activities.
