10-14-20 — October 2020 Special Board Meeting Summary

Oct. 14, 2020 ~ The Olathe Board of Education met in a special meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 14 to review the remote learning requirement for high-risk activities and athletics.

The board voted to continue to follow the Johnson County Department of Health and Environment (JCDHE) Gating Criteria, with the addition of the absenteeism metric of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. Because JCDHE has altered their gating criteria to no longer include recommendations related to high-risk activities and athletics, continuing to follow the JCDHE gating criteria will take away the requirement for participants in high-risk activities such as football to learn in a remote environment. These participants would be able to attend school in-person when secondary schools start hybrid learning on Oct. 19.
