6-20-18 — Golfers Raise $129K for Education
June 20, 2018 ~ Spending a steamy day on the links last week, more than 270 local golfers raised over $129,000 to directly benefit Olathe students and teachers as part of the 22nd Annual Olathe Public Schools Foundation Golf Classic. The foundation partnered with Olathe Health to present the tournament and fund classroom grants and student mental health and wellness programs with the proceeds.
The new John Deere Winning Ball contest had the teams searching the woods for their errant golf balls. Teams that played the special John Deere ball throughout the tournament without losing it were entered to win a special golf prize package. Staff from the Olathe Advanced Technical Center were on hand with their handicap accessible golf cart to assist with transporting golfers and volunteers and keeping them hydrated.
“A huge thank you to all of our volunteers, sponsors and golfers,” said Olathe Public Schools Foundation Executive Director Cindy VonFeldt. “This event is so important in supporting the Foundation and meeting the needs of all Olathe students and teachers.”
Special thanks to Tyson Foods, Chuy’s Tex-Mex and Taco John’s for feeding the golfers and volunteers three great meals and to Robert Brogden Buick GMC for providing the day’s rides around the course for all the golfers. Corporate sponsors CBIZ, CommunityAmerica Credit Union, Consolidated Communications, Garmin, Lennox Industries and Piper Jaffrey underwrote the tournament expenses so that every other dollar raised will go directly into classroom grants and special programming for students.
