Numerous Olathe Students Named Shooting Stars Award Finalists
The Arts Council of Johnson County (ACJC) announced 104 finalists who were nominated for the 2017 Shooting Star Awards. Of the finalists, 26 are students of Olathe Public Schools.
The Shooting Stars Program honors Johnson County high school students for achievement in the literary, performing and visual arts through recognition and college scholarships. Shooting Stars award recipients will be announced at the 21st annual Shooting Stars Gala at Johnson County Community College, Sunday, March 25, 2018.

District Staff Named to KASB Leadership Class
Olathe North High School Principal Jason Herman and Executive Director of General Administration/Secondary Education Jim McMullen have been accepted into the 2018 Kansas Association of School Boards (KASB) Leadership for Tomorrow program.
Through five two-day sessions across Kansas, the KASB Leadership for Tomorrow program creates a greater understanding of the Kansas public education system and provides opportunities to develop leadership skills for effective governance and raising student achievement.
Olathe Student Named Spirit of the Community Runner-Up
Cameron Jones, Olathe Northwest High School senior, was named runner-up for the Prudential Spirit of the Community Award.
The Prudential Spirit of the Community Awards is conducted by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary Schools Principals (NASSP) to honor the top youth volunteers in the state of Kansas.
“Cameron has a heart for others and dedicates her time, talent and energy toward improving the health and outlook for our community,” Olathe Northwest Principal Chris Zuck said.
Jones created an annual golf tournament that has raised more than $30,000 for suicide prevention charities in the Kansas City area. Jones will receive an engraved bronze medallion.
