6-10-15 — Alumni Association Announces 2015 Wall of Honor
June 10, 2015 ~ The Olathe Public Schools Alumni Association will recognize six exceptional alumni and one Distinguished Person of Honor during its Wall of Honor banquet on Wednesday, Sept. 30, at the Ball Conference Center, 21350 W. 153rd St., Olathe.
This year's honorees are:
- the late Fred Allenbrand, longtime Johnson County sheriff, John P. St. John Memorial High School Class of 1951;
- the late Arthur Caylor, highly respected newspaper columnist, Red Brick School Class of 1909;
- James R. Hubbard, private and city attorney, Olathe High School Class of 1961;
- Tom Knappenberger, area veterinarian and longtime Rotarian, John P. St. John Memorial High School Class of 1956;
- the late Roger Russell, lifelong hairstylist and supporter of youth 4-H programs, John P. St. John Memorial High School Class of 1952;
- and Rebecca Milloy Vrbas, career educator and middle school principal, Olathe High School Class of 1974.
Retired high school guidance counselor Bob Blackman touched thousands of students during his career from 1961 to 1990. He will receive the association's fourth Distinguished Person of Honor Award. Started in 2012, this award recognizes individuals who did not graduate from the district but provided exceptional support to the Olathe district for many years.
The dinner honoring these notable individuals will begin at 6 p.m. (socializing and seating at 5:30 p.m.). Tickets are $35 per person. Event sponsorships are available for $1,000. Contact Diane Gossage (913) 780-8182 for tickets or sponsorship information.
The 2015 Wall of Honor inductees will be recognized by the Board of Education during its Oct. 1 meeting at the Education Center, 14160 Black Bob Road, Olathe. Photos and biographies of previous honorees are available on the Wall of Honor.
