11-30-15 — Olathe West 21st Century Programs on Board's Agenda

Nov. 30, 2015 ~ Olathe Board of Education members will receive an update on two new 21st Century High School Programs when they meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in the Education Center, 14160 Black Bob Road, Olathe.

Deputy Superintendent Alison Banikowski will give the first presentation of the evening which focuses on the Public Safety and Green Tech programs coming to Olathe West High School when it opens in fall 2017. The board is expected to act on curriculum for both programs later in the meeting.

The second presentation will center on the Measures of Academic Progress assessment (MAP), a national assessment. Assistant Superintendent Jessica Dain will discuss the benefits of MAP testing for students, teachers, and school and district leaders.

The board will recognize two community partners, the district's United Way executive committee, several state sports champions, and other outstanding students and staff during the meeting.

Following a consent agenda of routine items, the board will vote on a few action items including bids and contracts, audit reports, and legislative positions.

The board will receive information about future action items including Head Start plans, technology equipment bid, instructional materials, curriculum, student trips, and board special meeting retreat.

An executive session to discuss personnel matters and employer-employee negotiations is scheduled.

Throughout the meeting, visitors are welcome to make contributions to the Children's Shoe Fund, part of the Olathe Mayor's Christmas Tree Fund. Collection jars will be located in the lobby and back of the board meeting room.
