3-3-16 — Students Named National Merit Finalists
March 3, 2016 ~ The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced the finalists in the 61st National Merit Scholarship Program. The Olathe School District has 22 finalists. They are:
- Olathe East High School: Austin Adams, Deanie Chen, Carson Christensen, Selina Liu, Michael Meier, Wade Rance and Sabrina Ton;
- Olathe North High School: Disha Dasgupta, Hannah Fuhlhage, Alisha Gupta, Miles McKaig, Kaitlyn O'Neal, Robyn Peterson, Katie Sale, Peter Shunk and Triton Wolfe;
- Olathe Northwest High School: Kaylor Cruz, Weston Harder, Connor Neil and Isabelle Smith;
- Olathe South High School: Camella Carlson and Rachel Li.
To become a finalist, a semifinalist must have an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed and recommended by the high school principal, and earn SAT scores that confirm the student's earlier performance on the qualifying test. The semifinalist must then submit a scholarship application, which includes the student's essay and information about the semifinalist's participation and leadership in school and community activities.
