1-11-17 — New Category Added to Olathe's Got Talent Competition
Jan. 11, 2017 ~ The seventh annual Olathe's Got Talent competition is expanding in 2017 to include a video category for high school juniors and seniors. The event will continue to showcase the performing and visual arts talents of Olathe area students as they compete for thousands of dollars in scholarships.
Olathe's Got Talent will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at the Bell Cultural Events Center, 2030 E. College Way on the campus of MidAmerica Nazarene University. The event is organized by the Olathe Noon Optimist Club in conjunction with Olathe Parks and Rec. It is presented by Olathe Lincoln Ford.
Juniors and seniors may submit videos and visual art with teacher approval. The deadline for the video entries is March 10 and visual arts are due April 14.
Students ages 7-19 may submit an application for the performing arts category, which includes vocal music, dance, instrumental music, and theatre performance. Applications are available by contacting olathenoontalent@sbcglobal.net. Auditions for the performing arts entrants will be held March 28 and April 1.
In its six prior years, Olathe's Got Talent awarded more than $32,000 in scholarships to area youth. Proceeds from ticket sales will help fund future scholarships, supplemental educational materials for select programs in the Olathe Public Schools, Miracle League team sponsorships, Olathe Parks and Rec Foundation, and school and community youth projects supported by the Olathe Noon Optimists.
