4-5-17 — Science Night Takes Magical Turn
April 5, 2017 ~ The magic of science will be revealed during the district's annual Science Night, set for 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 19 at Santa Fe Trail Middle School, 1100 N. Ridgeview Road, Olathe.
This year's event features more than 50 hands-on activities and experiences for the entire family. Organizers are celebrating "The Magic of Science" theme by giving magical souvenir cups featuring the district's 21st Century Academies to the first 1,000 children in attendance.
The free evening of learning and fun includes visits from the Olathe fire and police departments, Garmin, branches of the military, Science City, Home Depot, a nutritionist, a paleontologist, and the Civil Air Patrol to name a few. Children will be awed by district science fair presentations, eighth-grade science projects, and demonstrations by health science students at Olathe East High School. The Olathe North High School Faraday Society will present two shows, and magician Robert Wolf will entertain the crowd.
Hovercrafts, coding, robotics, chocolate-covered crickets, mega telescopes, dissection labs, and color magic are among the exhibits. Furry and scaly animal friends will also be on hand.
On-site food trucks and carts include The Funnel Cake Truck, Two Guys and a Grill, shaved ice, and other tasty treats.
