12-3-21 — December 2021 Board Meeting Review
Dec. 3, 2021 ~ The Olathe Board of Education met Dec. 2 for its regular monthly meeting. The agenda included four recognitions, two presentations, public comments and several action items.
Recognitions:
- The Olathe North High School gymnastics team won the 6A state championship title. Senior Ella Margheim took first place in all four events and won the all around award.
- Olathe North sophomore Anjali Hocker Singh was the individual 6A state champion in girls cross country.
- The Olathe West High School girls’ cross country team won the state title.
- The Olathe South High School boys’ cross country team won their state title.
- Board members Brian Geary, Brent McCune and Kristin Schultz were recognized for their years of service at their last official board meeting.
Bond Communication Plan
Executive Director of Communications and Community Relations Maggie Kolb updated board members on communication plans to educate staff, parents and the community about the Bond 2022 election. Information will be shared about the bond election and projects across a variety of channels to reach all stakeholders.
University Partnerships
Dr. Ann Addison, director of teacher induction and university partnerships, and Amy Hillman, Olathe recruitment liaison, informed the board about efforts to recruit and retain a teaching staff that honors and mirrors the district’s student population.
In other business, the board:
- Approved a consent agenda including meeting minutes, financial and accounts payable reports, human resources report, student trips, annual renewal of the Reading A-Z online subscription, and board policy revisions.
- Approved the recommendation for a student data and analytics platform. (capital outlay)
- Approved the recommendation for an annual contract for enterprise resource planning and human capital management systems. (capital outlay)
- Approved a temporary construction easement to the City of Olathe at California Trail Middle School.
- Approved a student trip for the Olathe North dance team. (parent supported)
- Approved the purchase of 10 replacement commercial lawn mowers. (capital outlay)
- Approved the recommendation for server maintenance and support. (capital outlay)
- Approved the audit reports for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2021. (general fund)
- Received information on several future action items including renewal of the Business Plus financial and human resources management software, student trip, replacement cafeteria tables for Fairview Elementary School, and studio upgrades for Olathe East High School.
- Received the Head Start director’s monthly report and parent-teacher conference report for fall.
- Held an executive session to discuss confidential student information.
