Student Selected to National Ensemble
Keegan Kaiser, who will be an Olathe Northwest High School senior, was selected as a member of the 2020 National Association for Music Education (NAfME) All-National Jazz Ensemble.
“Keegan is such a talented and dedicated musician and we are very proud of his accomplishment,” Chris Zuck, Olathe Northwest principal said. “It is obvious that Keegan has invested a great amount of time and effort into perfecting his craft.”
Communications Division Earns National Recognition
The Communications Division of the Olathe Public Schools earned recognition in the 2020 Publication & Digital Media Awards presented by National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA).
The Olathe Schools social media digital presence earned a merit award, given to Cody Kennedy, communications & media manager.
Honorable mentions were given to Tony Rangel, video production specialist, for the in-house produced video “Azalia’s Story” and to the district for the 2018-19 Olathe Public Schools Annual Report.
Theatre Programs Receive Recognition
Numerous Olathe students and high school theatre programs earned recognitions at the 18th annual Blue Star Awards by Starlight Theatre.
Olathe North High School received the Outstanding Overall Production award for “Bright Star.”
Hannah Guzman, Olathe North, received the award for Outstanding Actress in a Lead Role.
Willa Walberg, Olathe East High School, received the award for Outstanding Actress in a Supporting Role.
Jeremiah Valenzuela, Olathe East, received the award for Outstanding Actor in a Featured Role.
Summer Sperke, Olathe West High School, received the Technical Achievement Award.
Olathe East received the Outstanding Scenic Design and Construction, Tier II award for “All Shook Up.”
Olathe West received the Outstanding Lighting Design award for “Xanadu.”
Olathe West received the Outstanding Costume Design and Construction, Tier I award for “Xanadu.”
Modeled after Broadway’s Tony Awards, Starlight’s Blue Star Awards recognizes achievement and excellence in high school music theatre and is one of the largest programs like it in the country.
