Olathe North Wins Scholars Bowl
The Olathe North High School Scholars Bowl team recently earned the Kansas 6A state championship.
“We are so proud of our Scholars Bowl team for this wonderful accomplishment,” Olathe North coach Amy Clement said. “This is only the third year Olathe North has had a Scholars Bowl team. We have great seniors and many strong returning players and we are excited to see what next year brings.”
The Olathe North scholars bowl team consists of 30 students but only six students can compete in a tournament.
Olathe East Swimmers Earn State Titles
The Olathe East High School boys swim team recently earned the Kansas 6A state championship in the 200-Yard Medley Relay. Team members Phillip Costello, Micah Leslie, Jack Gabrielson and Aidan Walters broke the school record for fastest time.
Costello, junior, also was named the Kansas 6A state champion in the 100 Yard Breaststroke while setting a school record.
“These four young men exemplify everything a coach would want in and out of the pool,” Olathe East boys swim coach Dave Youker said. “Achieving a state title is what every team sets out to achieve at the beginning of a season and yet very few get to experience.”
Northwest Wins Big at National Dance Alliance Championships
The Olathe Northwest Raven Dance Team won three national championships in the large varsity team competition at the National Dance Alliance Championships in Orlando, Florida.
The Ravens won championships in Team Performance, Pom & Jazz and was named Grand National Champion.
This is the sixth straight year in which the Ravens won a national title.
North Wrestler Earns Second State Title
Olathe North High School wrestler Keegan Slyter earned the Kansas 6A state title in the 126-pound weight class. Slyter is now a two-time state champion.
“Keegan Slyter is a young man of character, intelligence and talent,” Olathe North wrestling head coach Josh Carroll said. “These skills not only reflect his tenacity and grit on the mat but extend to his dedication in the classroom. His work ethic and ability to overcome obstacles allows him to be very successful in both aspects of life.”
