5-25-23 — Exhibit Showcases Talents of Art Instructors

May 25, 2023 ~ Art instructors from each Olathe school have selected some of their personal art pieces for an exhibit in the Education Center this summer. “The Artsies” is open to the public in the lobby and hallways of the administrative building, 14160 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe, through Sept. 8.

The pieces were chosen by each art instructor to showcase their own stories, skills and accomplishments. They wrote custom award titles for their pieces ranging from “Best Mimi” to “Best Hat Juggler” and shared their inspiration for the piece on an Academy Award-style envelope.

Their 2D and 3D pieces range from an oil painting of the canals in Venice to a terracotta sculpture of a woman, from jewelry made from carved stones to a graphite pencil drawing of a cherished sonogram.

Mingled in among “The Artsies” are colorful and complex cardboard trophies created by the art teachers during a professional day. They were encouraged to design a trophy that expressed their talents, interests or skills.

The public is invited to see artwork during the regular business hours of 7:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday, or 7:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m. on Fridays. The Education Center will be closed Fridays from June 9 through July 28.
