9-30-19 — District Strategic Plan on Board of Education Agenda

Sept. 30, 2019 ~ The Olathe Public Schools Board of Education will hold its regular meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 3 in the Education Center, 14160 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe. Administrators will make two presentations to the board after several recognitions.

The board will recognize this year’s Olathe Public Schools Alumni Association Wall of Honor inductees, a student who earned a perfect ACT score, a School of Excellence, and the Outstanding Overall Art Educator of the Year.

The first presentation, by Assistant Superintendent Jim McMullen and Manager of Safety and Security Rick Castillo, is an update on safety and security throughout the district. The district’s Emergency Operations Plan is in the final revision stage with a planned submission to the Board of Education later this school year.

Assistant Superintendent Jessica Dain will present the district’s updated strategic plan based on Portrait of a Graduate competencies. Later in the meeting, board members will vote on implementing the plan. 

The board’s agenda includes a consent agenda of routine items as well as student trips. The board will act on several bids, contracts and agreements including a government relations contract, Education Center interior reconfiguration project, and on-call snow removal services. Action items also include three student trips.

Board members will receive information on several future action items ranging from student trips to technology bids. They will also receive two written reports: Head Start director’s report and student health services annual update.

An executive session is planned for the board to discuss non-elected personnel.
