6-14-21 — Golfers Hit the Links to Support Students, Teachers
June 14, 2021 ~ The past 12 months have been anything but typical, and it was so nice to be able to gather with Olathe Public Schools Foundation supporters at the OPSF 24th Annual Golf Classic on Thursday, June 10. Over 350 golfers spent a warm day enjoying a round of golf and raising nearly $130,000 for Olathe students and teachers.
The foundation partnered with Olathe Health and DS Bus Lines to present the tournament. Proceeds will enable the Foundation to support innovative ideas with classroom grants, recognize amazing teachers and staffers with the Educator Excellence and CEERA awards and support mental health and wellness programs for some of our most vulnerable students.
Golfers enjoyed hospitality provided by community sponsors and several on-course contests, including the popular John Deere Winning Ball contest, which rewards teams for completing 18 holes without losing a branded ball.
“This fun annual event is a great way to support Olathe teachers and students. Funds raised at this tournament help ensure we continue to meet the needs of Olathe students and teachers,” said Cindy VonFeldt, OPSF executive director. “This event wouldn’t be possible without support from our generous golfers, sponsors and volunteers.”
Staff from the Olathe Advanced Technical Center (OATC) were on hand with their handicap accessible golf cart to assist with transporting golfers and volunteers and keeping them hydrated throughout the day.
Special thanks to Torchy’s Tacos for providing dinner and to Robert Brogden Buick GMC, golf cart sponsor, for providing the day’s rides around the course. Corporate sponsors Garmin, Piper Sandler, Major Saver, SafeDefend, Synetic Technologies and State Farm: Debbie Swinney underwrote the tournament expenses so that more proceeds could go directly into classroom grants and special programming for students.
