10-1-21 — Board of Education Meeting Procedure Change

Aug. 27, 2021 ~ Beginning on Sept. 2, Board of Education meetings will be restructured. There will be 30 minutes dedicated for public comments, available on a first come, first served basis. Members of the public interested in speaking during public comments may sign up until noon on the day of the board meeting. The board clerk will assign the time for each speaker, depending on the number signed up by the deadline. No speaker will have more than five minutes to address the board. This change aligns with Olathe Board of Education Policy BCBI. Patrons are always able to reach out to Board of Education members by email.

Additionally, seating will be limited in the board room. Seating will be reserved for those who have a confirmed public comments slot. There will be limited additional seating available on a first come, first served basis. Doors will be open at 5:30 p.m. on the night of board meetings. Each board of education meeting will be livestreamed and can be watched on YouTube.

“It’s been a priority for the Board of Education to hear the input of patrons over the past number of months, and this was important to get the school year up and running. Now it’s time to focus on the regular work of the Board of Education in an orderly manner,” Assistant Superintendent of Operations Jim McMullen said.
