Feb. 11, 2021 ~ Garrett Li, a seventh-grade student from California Trail Middle School, won the Olathe Spelling Bee in 10 rounds and will represent the district at the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Approximately 47 students competed in the bee. Li correctly spelled “capstan” to win the bee. Liam Scheidel, an eighth-grade student from Prairie Trail Middle School, came in second place.
“We are proud of all of the participants who represented their individual schools and district so well,” Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education Tim Reves said. “Garrett did an outstanding job and we wish him the best of luck at the National Spelling Bee.”
The 2021 Scripps National Spelling Bee will be held June 1-3 in National Harbor, Maryland. The Olathe Public Schools and the Olathe Public Schools Foundation sponsor the Olathe Spelling Bee.
