Olathe Students Represent District with All-State Honors

Olathe students are typically well represented with Kansas Music Educators Association (KMEA) all-state emsemble honors. An unprecedented year made for no exception as 28 students were named to the KMEA High School All-State Mixed Choir, 19 students were named to the KMEA High School All-State Treble Choir, 26 students were named to the KMEA All-State High School 5/6A Band, 20 students were named to the KMEA All-State High School Orchestra, four students were named to the All-State High School Jazz Band, 12 students were named to the KMEA All-State Middle Level Choir, 10 students were named to the KMEA All-State Treble Honor Choir and three elementary students were named to the KMEA All-State Elementary Choir.

Olathe West Soccer Coach Earns Regional Honor

Olathe West High School soccer coach Matt Trumpp was selected as the 2019-20 Midwest Section Boys Soccer Coach of the Year by the National Federation of State High School Associations.

“Coach Trumpp has built an unbelievable program in four short years,” Olathe West Principal Jay Novacek said. “He is respected as one of the best soccer coaches in the state of Kansas and now in the Midwest. It is a well-deserved honor and I am proud that Matt is equally talented in the classroom as a social studies teacher.”

The Midwest section includes Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota and South Dakota.

Olathe East Athletic Director Earns Recognition

Olathe East High School Assistant Principal and Athletic Director Kaleb Stoppel was named the January Sports Under 40 honoree by the Coach & A.D. and the National High School Athletic Coaches Association. Each month coaches, administrators or officials are eligible to receive this designation.

“This honor is well deserved. Kaleb is committed to a positive athletic experience for kids, coaches and fans,” Olathe East Principal Kerry Lane said. “He is passionate about sustaining and continuously improving our Hawk athletic programs and is dedicated to growing great athletes and people.”

Olathe Student Receives Honor

Malakhi Hill, Olathe North High School sophomore, has been named the 2021 Olathe Unity Youth of the Year by the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s National Youth of the Year program.

“Congratulations to Malakhi. This is a great honor,” Olathe North Principal Jason Herman said. “This award just shows his commitment to his community.”

Hill will serve as a role model, brand ambassador and thought leader for Boys & Girls Clubs of America by telling his personal story at select speaking engagements.
