Olathe Educator Receives State Award

Olathe Northwest High School biology teacher Andrew Taylor has been recognized as the Kansas Outstanding Biology Teacher Award by the National Association of Biology Teachers.

“Mr. Taylor provides hands-on, challenging opportunities for our honors biology students who are in the Engineering Academy,” Olathe Northwest Principal Chris Zuck said. “He consistently goes above and beyond to support students and create meaningful and engaging learning that is beneficial to our students. Mr. Taylor is extremely deserving of this recognition and Olathe Northwest is very fortunate to have him.”

Olathe Staff Member Recognized for Work in Community

Heather Schoonover, community development liaison for the Olathe Public Schools, was named a recipient of the 2020 Arts Inspired Network Courageous Creativity Challenge award for her work with various programs and outreach for students and their families in the Olathe community.

“Heather is incredibly deserving of this honor and is the definition of a servant leader,” Olathe Public Schools Executive Director of Communications & Community Relations Maggie Kolb said. “Heather’s focus is always on helping others and making sure all of our families have the support they need. We are so grateful and fortunate to have her as a vital team member of the Olathe Public Schools.”
