4-20-22 — Safety Town Hall Recap

April 20, 2022 ~ On Tuesday, April 19, Olathe families, staff and community members were invited to join the district at a Safety Town Hall at Olathe East High School. Members of the district’s safety services department provided an overview of the district’s multi-layered safety and security plan, protocols and procedures in place at all district buildings grades PreK-12 – from access control systems, to radio communication to security cameras and the district’s ALICE active shooter training and more. Additionally, members of the Olathe Fire Department and Olathe Police Department talked about the ongoing relationship between the district and local law enforcement and first responders, including School Resource Officers in Olathe schools.

“The safety of our students is very personal to all of us up on the stage. All of us either currently have or have had kids in the Olathe schools,” said Dr. Jim McMullen, assistant superintendent. “The number one priority of the district, every single day, above learning, athletics, performing arts, clubs – you name it – the No. 1 priority is student safety. We are all very committed to keeping our students safe here.”

Following the presentation, attendees had an opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions of the panel of presenters.
