1-10-22 — January 2022 Board Meeting Preview

Jan. 10, 2022 ~ The Olathe Board of Education will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13 in the Education Center, 14160 S. Black Bob Road, Olathe for its regular meeting. The doors will open at 5:30 p.m.

Public comments are limited to a total of 30 minutes and seating in the board room is reserved for those who have a confirmed public comments slot. Limited additional seating is available on a first come, first served basis. The meeting will be livestreamed on the district’s YouTube channel.

Three newly elected members of the board, Brian Connell, Robert Kuhn and Julie Steele, will be sworn in after the Pledge of Allegiance led by Briarwood Elementary’s Scout group. Immediately following, the board will elect a new vice president to complete the remainder of the 2021-22 year.

The board will recognize the Olathe Public Schools Foundation, two outstanding musicians, and a state-champion sports team. January is National School Board Appreciation Month.

Three presentations are planned: school spotlight, school resource officer partnership, and Bond 2022. Following public comments, the board will act on a consent agenda of routine items as well as bids, contracts and agreements, and the district’s 2022-23 school year calendar. The board will also vote on legislative priorities for the 2022 session and receive information on future action items. One written report will be presented to the board before they adjourn to executive session to consult with their attorney about non-elected personnel matters. A second executive session is planned to consult with the district's attorney.
