5-6-21 — Board to Respond to Fourth S.B. 40 Hearing

May 6, 2021 ~ At 8 a.m. on Monday, May 10, the Olathe Board of Education will gather in a virtual board meeting to receive a report from the Senate Bill 40 administrative hearing officer and make a decision on a parent's aggrievement regarding a COVID-19 quarantine. This meeting will be virtual only, but will be livestreamed and available for public viewing.

As a reminder, the Kansas Legislature passed Senate Bill 40, which gives boards of education sole authority to take actions in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The legislation also provides that employees, students, and parents or guardians who disagree with the COVID-19 interventions in place may request a hearing to challenge the interventions. On Tuesday, May 4 a hearing was held at the request of a parent who filed a complaint about a COVID-19 quarantine.

The Board of Education action will be shared on the district website,, under the News Articles section. Additionally, should there be any future hearings, they will be communicated on the district homepage under News Articles.
