6-18-20 — Parents, Staff to Receive Information about Survey
June 18, 2020 ~ Collaborating as a community is a necessary step in navigating a successful return to school this fall. As COVID-19 halted in-person instruction at the conclusion of the previous school year, the Olathe Public Schools is asking for student, staff and parent feedback to provide insight regarding the needs of our school community.
We wanted to provide advance information that emails and surveys will be sent in the coming weeks. These surveys are intended to gather important information which will help the district finalize plans for instruction once guidance from the state department of education and the county and state health departments has been provided. We anticipate this guidance to be released in early July, but feel it necessary to gather stakeholder information now to be better prepared.
A ThoughtExchange survey for high school students will be emailed to student email addresses Friday, June 19. A follow-up email will be sent to parents of high school students in the event that students cannot access their accounts. Because of the nature of high school, we know it is important to gather input from students.
On Tuesday, June 23, a survey will be sent to all district parents/guardians. This survey will be active through Thursday, July 2. The purpose of this survey is for parents/guardians to provide insight regarding their intention to send students to school for in-person classes or enroll in remote learning through Olathe Public Schools. Remote learning offered by the Olathe Public Schools will look different moving forward. Students will receive direct instruction by a certified teacher in core content areas (reading, math, social studies, science, and social-emotional learning). The amount of direct instruction will be based on guidance provided by the Kansas State Department of Education; however, it will be less direct instruction than a student would receive in a traditional classroom setting. More information will be provided in this survey when it is sent to parents on June 23.
A survey for Olathe Public Schools staff members will be sent this summer. The purpose of this survey is to establish staff needs for a safe return to in-person instruction.
We take our responsibility as a leader in public education very seriously and value the relationship we have with our families. Your input is greatly appreciated.
