Olathe Graduates Selected For Student Leaders Program

photo of Frida Andrade and Spencer Foster Four students in the Kansas City community have been selected as Bank of America Student Leaders. This program offers young adults an opportunity to build their workforce and leadership skills through a paid summer internship at local nonprofits. Two of the four students are 2019 Olathe South High School graduates.

Spencer Foster will be an intern at Clement Waters, Crosslines Community Outreach, Crestview Elementary YMCA Day Camp, Kansas City Farm School at Gibbs Road, Turnstyles Thrift and Kansas City Parks and Rec - Lakeside Nature Center. Frida Andrade will be an intern at Habitat for Humanity, Clement Waters, Nourish KC, Wonderscope Children’s Museum, Kansas City Parks and Rec – Lakeside Nature Center and Turnstyles Thrift.

California Trail Art Teacher Receives Art Educator of the Year Award

Megan Wendleton, art teacher at California Trail Middle School, was selected as the 2019-20 Outstanding Overall Art Educator of the Year by the Kansas Art Education Association (KAEA).

Wendelton will receive the award during the KAEA Fall Conference awards reception held at the Regnier Center at Johnson County Community College Oct. 11.

“Mrs. Wendleton is an amazing part of our California Trail staff and she is so worthy of this honor,” California Trail Principal Mike Wiley said. “Megan impacts the entire building in such a positive manner, makes outstanding connections with students and then equips them with skills to create beautiful pieces.”
